The Southampton Community Band was the brainchild of Colonel George Lynch, who, for years always wanted to have a community band in Southampton. He enlisted the help of Dr. Gil Guglielmi, who was a music teacher in the Centennial School District for 41 years and the conductor of the Warminster Symphony for 15 years. When Dr. Gil retired and had more time to devote to the project, they teamed up to develop a community band with George as general manager and Dr. Gil as Music Director/Principal Conductor.
From humble beginnings in the fall of 1998 with 12 musicians and borrowed music, the band certainly has come a long way. The Southampton Band continues to grow and flourish in the community with a strong support structure and enthusiastic support from Southampton and the surrounding communities.
After Dr. Gil stepped down as principal conduction in 2009, Marvin Feld, a 34-year music teacher in Central Bucks School District took the podium for the next six years. Marv emphasized the traditional of classical band literature in the band’s repertoire. Every year during our Scholarship Fundraiser, Marv brought in professional instrumentalists to play with the band and entertain the audience.
In 2015, Michael Regosch, principal trombonist for Southampton and lead trombonist for the Warminster Symphony, stepped onto the podium to elevate the band’s talents and repertoire, and lead the band through the COVID pandemic of 2020 to its 25th anniversary and beyond. We now are revisiting our roots while heading into the future of concert band literature.
